Read Frog vs Immersive Translate
Both turn web pages and YouTube subtitles into side-by-side bilingual text. Read Frog is open source, translates selections for free, breaks down words and long sentences with AI and turns them into flashcards, from $3 a month.

The short answer
Both are browser extensions, and both handle the basics: bilingual web pages, dual YouTube subtitles, translating a selection, and bringing your own API key or local model. Read Frog adds three things:
Bilingual web pages and videos
Read web pages and YouTube subtitles with the translation beside the original, and see a translation as soon as you select a sentence. These basics are free with the Google or Microsoft translator, or bring your own OpenAI, DeepSeek, Gemini or local model.

What Read Frog adds
From reading to remembering
Immersive Translate is done once the page is translated. Read Frog keeps going:
- Select a word or sentence on a page or in a video's subtitles and run an AI Action to look it up or break down a long sentence.
- Save the result to Notebase in one click, together with the sentence it came from.
- Add a card template to the notebase and your notes become flashcards; FSRS schedules each review by how well you remember the card.
Immersive Translate's own comparison concedes that vocabulary learning is better served by dedicated tools (see its comparison with Saladict). Read Frog builds that tool into the translator.
Open source, and your keys stay with you
